SE Asia Trip 2012 – Island hop, snorkeling x 2 and climbing to view point

One thing I learned about Thailand is that things aren’t always on time.

That train or boat may be delayed an hour, but no big deal, they’ll still get you to where you need to go.

Today was the day of the Speed Boat tour. The tour takes you to a few different islands, provides lunch and bottled water.

My cousin told me 9am in the lobby of her hotel, so I speed walked fr our hotel at 8:45am hoping they hadn’t left yet. When I got there I realized there was no need to rush, my cousin wasn’t ready yet and the tour guide hadn’t arrived.

When the boat arrived it was around 9:40am but being the last people they picked up, meant we also got the best seats (at the back of the boat with the best view!). No complaints here.

First stop was Bamboo Island. We had 40min to walk around, swim or do whatever before boarding the boat again.

We didn’t actually see any bamboo on the island but we did take some good photos.

Next we took photos in Phi Phi Leh. Photos were from the boat, and the view was gorgeous.

Passed by Viking cave, a cave where birds nests are collected. They joked that this island made more money than all of phi phi because of the birds nests! I’m sure it’s true.

We passed by Monkey beach where people were throwing bread to the monkeys from the boat. The monkeys, hanging from trees, caught the food and ate it. It wasn’t that impressed though. We saw more monkeys and got closer to them when we were on Rai Leh at phra nang beach.

At this point we were getting tired of being on the boat. Lucky for us, it was time to snorkel in Maya Bay!!
The water was refreshing and there was so many fish! One guy was feeding the fish bread so at one point they surrounded us! Amazing!

We stopped for buffet lunch on phi phi don, the main island, and had extra time to browse the shops.

It felt so good to eat, I was getting dizzy from being on the boat and even during lunch I still felt like I was on the water.

After that we thought the boat would just take us back to the hotel. But we stopped for an open water snorkel. It was fantastic. There were fish everywhere and it was so nice being in the water. It was a great way to end the speed boat tour.

When we got back to the island, I met up with yoni who was on his way to the viewpoint.

We initially went the wrong way and ended up where all the rock climbers were. We were directed down a path on the way to phra-nang beach.

There was a sign pointing up. The path was steep and required the use of the ropes and a firm grip. I’d be lying if I said it was easy.

The view made it all worth it! Even the mosquito bites!

The tide at Rai Leh East went out pretty far

We had buffet dinner at a near by resort. You select your skewer and the buffet is included for free.

I got a beef veggie skewer and got pretty full from that and buffet. It was pretty good.

Didn’t get the crocodile cause it was all out

We met up with my cousin after dinner for drinks since it was their last nite in Thailand before flying to Singapore.

After the late night the night before, we were happy to go home early (12am) after watching another fire show at Last Bar
