Free Comic Book Day!
Elfsar Collection and Golden Age were just two out of the zillion Comic Book Shops that were swarming with people this past Saturday, May 5th for Free Comic Book Day.
Elfsar Collection in Yaletown had quite a display, featuring comic book author/artist signings, contests, and a larger array of free stuff. Either cash(minimum $2) or canned good donation to the local Foodbank gave you a choice of an additional 5 comics from the coveted back wall! The more people that saw you make a donation the more they were enticed to give something too. Just having that Foodbank donation collection was a great way give back to the community.
Bringing along a friend who isn’t a comic book fan seemed mandatory and we did just that. But even free comics and posters couldn’t change their mind! Instead, after a few minutes of wandering inside he decided waiting outside of the comic shop was better. Totally defeats the purpose of introducing people to comics when they don’t cooperate. We ended up leaving early, but not before I entered a draw and snapped a few photos.

A few local comic book artists/creators were there to sign their work or impress us with their drawings. They could only fit 4 at a time in there
More selection in terms of free comics, but had to avoid taking the same ones I took from the other comic store I visited earlier..unfortunately after checking my stash, I picked up the same comic twice!
It was already late afternoon when I went to Elfsar but still bustling with activity.
