When the red light on your DS goes on…

..how long do you have before the system shuts down?

I always thought you would have about 1/2 an hour worth of battery life before the DS shuts down. And earlier today I tested it…

I was playing the last level in Elite Beat Agents when my DS Lite’s red light came on. So I switched it off and decided to continue playing on my old DS. It took a few minutes for my eyes to adjust to the DS screen because of how much darker it is versus the DS Lite’s.

Switching to the old DS, however, was good for a few reasons.

1) I don’t care about scratching the screen with my stylus.
2) the stylus is thinner and it felt easier to tap the circles.
3) The volume is of course louder on the DS.

I guess its a good thing I didn’t get rid of my bulky DS…

While I was playing the last level the DS’ red light came on too. Not surprising though, as I don’t tend to charge it as often as my DS Lite. Too addicted at that point to just turn it off; so I kept on playing. I have to admit the last level was tricky, lots of fast combinations, but overtime I was got used to the song. The difficulty on top of multi-tasking – cooking, emails and playing – it took me more than a few times before I actually beat the game.

Would it shut off when the credits were going? No, the red light remained on even after it brought me back to the start screen. I was about to play a bonus level over again but had to answer the door. When I came back a few minutes later the DS finally shut off.
So, approximately 45min to an hour passed before my DS ran out of power. That’s pretty good if you think about it. I’m always worried when I see that light and I don’t have my charger handy – especially if it happens when I’m nowhere near a save point or while racing in MK.

At least this time, it let me finish the game before it turned off 🙂
